Minimalism is a traditional Japanese concept which provokes clarity, intentionality, and purpose in a human being. In simple words, the concept means to focus on the things that we truly value and eliminate other distractions.

The concept is often linked to reducing anxiety. This is because if we have everything perfectly planned out, we will not have any reason to worry. But how can this lead to more savings?

When we don’t know what we are doing we usually end up spending more. A simple example can be shopping in a mall. If you go to the mall intending to buy new tennis shoes, you’ll head straight to the shoe shops into its tennis shoes section. However, if you have no clue about the type of footwear you need, you may end up buying a new pair of slippers, sandals, and even shoes along with it. So this way if you were clear about what to buy, you might’ve been able to save the money you spent on things you don’t actually need. Furthermore, this money could be combined with the rest of your savings, and been invested.

Another most common mistake that we usually make is to link our happiness to the stuff we buy. Meaning, the more stuff we have, the happier we will be. But this is not true. The ‘stuff’ might make us happy at the moment of purchase, but later it will be like all the other things we have kept in our storage rooms or junkyard. Now even though shopping right now is stress-free, it may cause severe anxiety later as we won’t know what to do with so many things. Hence the easy way through this is purchase in limits. Buy what you need by setting a purpose and having clear intentions! This will not only make your life easy but again help you save easily.

In short, minimalism is a way to save without actually trying to save money. So just focus on the things you value and watch your money grow!
